Hall Construction appointed as contractor for major works at Burtree Garden Village
Construction at Burtree Garden Village is set to progress at pace following the appointment of Hall Construction Services Ltd as the main contractor for critical infrastructure works on the transformative development in Darlington.
The £16.8 million contract will see Hall Construction deliver a wide-ranging package of enabling infrastructure for the first phase of the project, including a new roundabout on Burtree Lane, reconfiguration of Rotary Way, approximately 2.4km of new highway, internal roads and access, utilities, drainage systems, and the delivery of a central 20-acre landscape park known as Burtree Park.
Burtree Garden Village is being delivered by Hellens Group in partnership with Homes England and Darlington Borough Council. Once complete, the scheme will feature 2,000 homes, up to 200,000 sq. m of employment space, community facilities, and generous green infrastructure.
Hall Construction, a respected regional civil engineering firm, brings deep experience and local knowledge to the project. Founded in 1986 by brothers Stephen and Neville Hall, the family-run business has grown into a trusted national operator with a strong track record of delivering high-quality infrastructure and development schemes across the UK.
This appointment represents a symbolic moment for two regional, family-run businesses with intertwined histories. Hellens was founded in 1973, and for over 35 years, the two firms were friendly competitors in the civil engineering sector before Hellens strategically repositioned as a land and property development company. The project now brings together the second generation of both families, with a shared vision for sustainable community creation.
